Surface Water Monitoring

In September 2011, the Jackson County Conservation District received a grant from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality to conduct surface water monitoring in 2012-2013.  The new Upper Grand River Monitoring Project will be carried out in partnership with the Jackson County Health Department, Grand River Environmental Action Team (GREAT), ASTI Environmental, Jackson County Drain Commissioner, and the Upper Grand River Watershed Alliance.

The project will sample 19 priority sites throughout the watershed (see map).  Data will be collected for E. coli bacteria, dissolved oxygen, and total suspended solids. The monitoring results will help fill in gaps in existing surface water data for our watershed, and will also be used as a baseline for new watershed implementation projects.
