Come join us at for a Winter Stonefly Hunt! During this event we will search for stoneflies in our local rivers and streams. Stoneflies appear during the winter and require oxygen-rich waters to survive. They are also intolerant of pollution, which makes them a great indicator of the water quality in our area.
The Winter Stonefly Hunt will be on Saturday, February 7th from 10am to 2pm. Volunteers will help us look for stoneflies by stepping into a pair of waders to search in the water, or by helping sort samples on the streambank (or both). No experience is necessary, as we will provide some quick training and equipment.
Kids are welcome to attend as long as they are accompanied by an adult.
We will meet in the JCCD office at 211 W Ganson St, Suite 200 Jackson MI 49201. Depending on the size of our group we will cover two sites OR split into two different groups and cover four sites.
